Water & Power: Whitney Bedford, Katie Shapiro, Emilie Halpern@ Roadside Attraction 733 North Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena, CA 91103We are pleased to present Roadside Attraction, a new temporary outdoor gallery. Sited on a traffic-heavy, vehicular corridor, Roadside Attraction consists of three vinyl, 8 x 12’ panels mounted on a wooden framework, resembling an oversized, Z-fold screen. The structure was designed to be visible to commuters and pedestrians moving along North Fair Oaks Avenue, offering a friendly encounter with art on a public thoroughfare. Over the course of the next year, the Armory will install rotating exhibitions viewable 24 hours a day, and developed concurrently with exhibitions in the Armory’s Caldwell Gallery.
Since 2008, the Armory has mounted a series of environmentally conscious public artworks at 733 N. Fair Oaks Avenue, a city-owned lot. To continue this trajectory, the Armory has selected works by Whitney Bedford, Katie Shapiro, and Emilie Halpern, three artists included in the Armory’s upcoming exhibition Facing the Sublime in Water, CA, on display at the Armory from October 7, 2012 – January 13, 2013.
